Silver Nitrate Sticks (AgNO3) 100 Stick

MedPro Flexible Caustic Applicators (75% silver nitrate, 25% potassium nitrate) 100 pack.  The flexible 6-inch, single-use, silver-tipped sticks are activated upon contact with moisture and act by destroying tissue upon contact

MedPro Flexible Caustic Applicators (75% silver nitrate, 25% potassium nitrate) are used by moisturizing the tip with water and applying it to warts, verrucas, or for cauterizing small wounds. The flexible 6-inch, single-use, silver-tipped sticks are activated upon contact with moisture and act by destroying tissue upon contact

How to Use MedPro Caustic Applicators:
  • Prepare: Clean the application area and protect surrounding skin, as silver nitrate can stain skin and clothing black.
  • Activate: Moisten the medicated tip using distilled, deionized, or clean water.
  • Apply: Dab or roll the tip directly onto the affected tissue (e.g., wart, granulation tissue) for a few seconds.
  • Action: The silver nitrate acts immediately to cauterize tissue or destroy the wart.
  • Post-Application: The treated site may turn black within 24 hours and will peel away within 4 to 7 days.
  • Storage: Store in the original container in a dry, dark place.

NPN: 80047955

Key Precautions:
  • Safety Glasses: Wear eye protection to avoid accidental eye contact.
  • Controlled Use: Do not use on large surface areas or sensitive areas (e.g., mucous membranes) without medical advice.
  • Limitation: Do not use if the area is heavily bleeding, as it will wash away the chemical.

Disclaimer: These are general instructions. Always consult a healthcare provider for treating skin conditions and follow the specific packaging directions.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Prior to use, the applicator sticks may be bent or shaped to allow easier access to the target area. Wash affected area and dry thoroughly before use. The medicated end of the applicator should be moistened in clean water and applied to the wart. The strength of the action is controlled by the amount of water used to moisten the tip. Apply this moist tip to the wart for one to two minutes. Stop the action by washing the area with a saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride). The treatment may be repeated after 24 hours to a maximum of three treatments only. If the skin is not healing satisfactorily at the end of the week, consult a doctor. USES: Silver nitrate applicators are useful for the removal of common warts and verrucae. CONTRAINDICATIONS AND ANTIDOTES: For external use only. Do not take orally. If swallowed, seek urgent medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center. Consult a health care practitioner if discomfort persists. Do not use on irritated or reddened skin or any area that is infected. Do not use if you have diabetes or poor blood circulation. Do not use on moles, birthmarks, warts with hair growing from them, genital warts, or warts on the face or mucous membrane. Continued application to mucous membranes and open wounds may lead to argyria, a bluish-black discolouration of the skin due to depositions of granules of silver compounds in the connective tissues. This condition persists indefinitely or disappears very slowly. Poisoning by oral ingestion is unlikely with the quantities involved, but treatment for poisoning is the immediate ingestion of large amounts of salt water followed by an emetic. Then administer a dose of Epsom Salts followed with milk. Immediately call a physician. CAUTION: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. DO NOT USE IN OR NEAR EYES. STORAGE: Store at room temperature in the closed package, in a dry place protected from light. Exposure to light will cause the silver nitrate tip to turn black, but will not affect the product's potency.

They are used to remove common warts and verrucas, treat hypergranulation tissue (overgrowth in wounds or around feeding tubes), and stop minor bleeding (hemostasis).

The medicated tip is activated by moisture. You can dip it briefly in clean water (distilled or purified is preferred) or apply it directly to a moist wound or membrane.
Note: Avoid using saline (salt water) to activate the stick, as it can decrease the effectiveness of the silver nitrate.

Apply the moistened tip to the target tissue for one to two minutes. The degree of cauterization depends on how long the tip remains in contact with the tissue.

The cauterizing effect can be neutralized and stopped by washing the area with saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride).

Yes, silver nitrate will cause the treated area and any accidental skin contact to turn black or grayish-blue. This staining on the skin typically fades within one to two weeks.

External Use Only: Do not use in or near the eyes.
Gloves: Always wear nitrile or rubber gloves; vinyl gloves do not sufficiently protect against silver nitrate stains or burns.
Skin Barrier: Apply petroleum jelly to the healthy skin surrounding the treatment area to prevent accidental burns.
Contraindications: Do not use on genital warts, moles, birthmarks, or areas with poor circulation/diabetes.
